Quick Blog Post! 08/24/2010

Hi All!

No i'm not active on my own website.  But I did mention in my previous blog somewhere that I would be more active on my Facebook Fan Page.....and yes it is true!  If you haven't kept up well you've missed alot!  :)

Anyhow, not too much to say because I say it all on my fan page!  :)  Anyhow...I'm excited that I finally step out of my zone this fall and begin studies with a couple of new bellydance teachers and maybe a new flamenco teacher...but I'm still sticking with my so-called birthmothers of bellydance (Suhaila Salimpour) and flamenco (Genoveva)...  I'm just starting to branch out to new unchartered territories.

I will begin my studies in classical Egyptian style Bellydance...something I know i'm gonna SUCK in!...That's a FACT!...but I want to learn the roots so that I can be a more well rounded dancer...maybe Egyptian won't be my style....you know what i KNOW it won't be my style.....but it won't take away from the fact that I'm gonna learn so much from a very good teacher.....it will only make me a better dancer..  Egyptian style is very soft and beautiful...i want that....I want to be a better educated dancer.  So Egyptian is next!  yippee!

I'm organizing a workshop for the talented Master Percussionist Souhail Kaspar.  I'm excited to bring him so I can learn from him in person and again step out of my comfort zone....  I'm excited that I can maybe bring another person in the thriving DC bellydance scene that is well respected...and maybe bring him to some people (like ME!) who haven't had the chance to learn from him or even heard of him!  He's been in DC before so hopefully I can continue the positive energy and the DC bellydance scene will support Mr. Souhail Kaspar in his workshop in DC in January 22-23, 2011.

My flamenco shoes are looking at me right now waiting to be used next week in class since my teacher is away for the week in Hawaii!...Lucky!

I toured the studio that I will be teaching in ....yes I said that...teaching.....i know i've said i would teach again in the past but it's for real this time...but it won't be till February as D-Day (my performance project show--and that's not the real name of the show...that will be revealed later) is taking up my time till then....i think i will be doing a 180 and instead of teaching adults...i'll be teaching children and teens!...aaah!....my soon-to-be boss presented that idea to me...good practice for me as i"m still suppose to go to Cartagena, Colombia and teach there!....aaah!....I got my invitation...just need to go!

The studio i will teach in is a new studio and the owners are just the most amazing people...i can't wait to work for and with them....it's hard to find gems like them especially in the artistic world....it will be my safe haven as an artist...and hopefully i will spread that positivity and energy to those tiny ones i'll be teaching... :)

I'm working on a performance project in January and I'm wearing a gazillion hats..executive producer, dancer, choreographer, manager, business person, artistic director, mother hen, and more...I hate all the hats I'm wearing but at this stage of my career I must do that since I don't have a manager.  It's hard getting a 7 piece band together with 2 dancers, including myself for this show.  It's experimental...and I love it!....Rehearsals began earlier this year but got postponed once the show was pushed back.  But rehearsals begin again in October and I can't wait!

Two costumes, out of the 5 that I'm wearing for the show, are being custom made in NYC right now...so I can't wait for my 2nd costume fitting at the end of September! hehe....

I said this was going to be short...but it's not...oh well...  :)

Another thing to add on my plate...I'm looking for a waitressing job. on top of my day job!...Do i have any hours left in the day??...nope i'm creating them with less sleep...  :/  I need the money so that's why I'm looking for the waitressing job...but in addition...i'm moving to another phase of my life....my ME phase....i'm not getting younger and wanna live my dreams...my life...despite the saddling school loans which are the only things holding me back....

I still need to raise money so that I can certify as a pilates mat instructor....there are so many things i want to do with the pilates certification......and it mainly involves Cartagena, Colombia and minorities, in particular those of a lower socioeconomic status.  my artistic path as a dancer and musician needs pilates, my music, my photography (yes i'm a photographer..my work has not been seen yet...but i think it's good..  :)...and it needs MONEY!...aah!...waitressing here i come!  :)

i'm growing as an artist...my soul is growing...i wish to spread positivity like my great teacher Marija Temo does.....she is by far my favorite teacher in life....her humble spirit...her positive energy, her openness, her desire to grow, her mastery of her art....her spirit is just something to be in awe of ....i hope to make her proud when my soul performs soon.....not my body.....my soul....

ok have a good night all!

talk to you soon!

oh this is the song that is playing non-stop on my ipod, laptop...everywhere!.."tus ojos no me ven:..."your eyes don't see me".....by joey montana.....me encanta....por que soy Afro-Latina....ay mi corazon...me gusta esta cancion...muy bonitta.....ricooooo!  :)

Hello all,

I know it's been a LOOONG WHILE!...I decided a couple of weeks ago that I will make my first official performance as a performing belly dancer this June!  yes! true!....don't know what prompted this....but maybe i'm just tired of sitting on my dreams although many people may not believe that i sit on my dreams...but...5 years ago i thought i would be at a different place than where i am right now.  I actually thought that I would be touring and performing all over the world at this point...well...um i'm not!...hehe  it's ok... but i won't give up on that.

Thus, I'm choreographing my first drumming solo..possibly two!  I bought the first pieces of my costume. I met with my hairstylist.  Going to the fabric store this weekend to get some fabric for my costume.  Contacting my seamstress tomorrow to make part of my costume.  Looking for drummers knowledgeable in Middle Eastern rhythms to perform with...and more!!  I have a very long way to go with preparations and stuff.  My first rehearsal is this Sunday night!...I'm excited!  But not excited about going to bed now to be at the gym at 5:00am to get that body in gear to show my belly in June!

ok night i'll talk to you soon!  oh....here's my facebook fan page!...become a fan!...i'm going to start being more active on there now!  i think?  :)

ok night!

NEW CLASSES! 07/18/2009

Hello All!

Happy Mid-Summer!..  haha!

I hope everyone is having a great summer!  It's been a mild summer in DC for sure!... I can sit on my laptop and work and just have my ceiling fan and my other fan on and be comfortable!!  Last year I could never do that!....I would come home at night and the apartment would still be boiling hot even thought the sun went down hours ago! I would just lock myself up in the bedroom with the A/C.

Enjoy it!.....

Due to many requests and some great feedbacks from classes I've subbed for my teacher Marta, I think I may return back to the studio and teach again.  Right now I've been focusing on training and life in general.  I want to help bring a sense of community in my classes and in the way I teach.  Because my class is so drill oriented it is so easy to get caught up in your own world and not focus on others.  I dont' do that when I teach.  I focus on you and make you focus on yourself.

However, it's true.....you have to focus on yourself and not worry that the person next to you can squeeze her glutes harder or they have better control of their muscles and the dance movements. If you focus on others you won't grow.  Physically focus on you.  Spiritually focus on everyone because we are all one! We are here together learning, as I'm still and forever learning from the wonderful Suhaila Salimpour, Marta and Genoveva.

Anyhow!  It's not for certain but watch out for more information.  New classes possible for the fall!

I'm Back! 02/28/2009

Hello All,

I hope all is well.  I am back from Madrid.

It was an interesting trip.  I am so excited that my family has extended.  I met some amazing individuals and my soul won't be at ease again until I see them again.  Such wonderful souls....I'm deeply humbled... I only hope I am trully deserving of meeting them.  Wow....I will do whatever I can to see you soon. My soul is aching to see you all...wow..such spiritual connections...  I will see you again....  My hope and determination is this September!

My life back here.  I'm going through some artistic motions mostly thanks to my soul connections in Madrid.  Not sure what I will do next.  I am more eager to grow and practice on a daily basis now.  Will I teach again?.....I'm not sure....I'm more inclined to say "NO" at this point.  Due to my belief that I need to train better on my own before I teach anymore.  I'm waiting for my teacher Marta to return from her trip to train again.  I need to appropriately study for the Suhaila Salimpour Level 2 certification.  I am due to test in October but I may have to push that back for another year.  Not happy with that...unless I do major overtime with training between now and the Fall.

Anyhow, my creative juices have been renewed.  I just need my pockets to be filled with some money to keep me going.  :)  I can't stay and write for too long.  I must go back to some non-paying artistic work right now.  hah!....

I will write soon.  Hope all is well...  :)

Hello All!

I hope all is well with you!  The year has started great with the inauguration of President Barack Hussein Obama!  Yay!  I went to the inauguration...well I should say I was in the 5 mile radius around it with the crowd of people.  It was awesome!  Great energy!

What makes this year an especially great new year is that I go to Madrid for an intensive flamenco study on Friday!  yay!

It's been a long time coming.  I've been saving for this trip for awhile and it is finally here.  I really hope my flamenco dance and music technique jump leaps and bounds so that I am a much better than dancer and musician when I leave Madrid.

Wish me good luck, a nice farewell!...

Have a nice one!

Hi,

It is so nice to finally have my official site up!  The site is pretty basic right now, but with time it will develop to something that much more.  I hope you follow me on my journey.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my site.  I know this is your first time because this is my first time here!

Although my site is pretty basic, it did take awhile to work on it.  I am not a techie person.

Ok, I'll let you go.  Please come back more often.  It was so nice to meet you!  Haha  :)
