Basic Bellydance Technique with Stylized Arms Workshop

Bellydance Technique with Stylized Arms Workshop -7 weeks          Tuesdays: 11/4/2008-12/16/2008
     This class is a pure, basic technique class heavily influenced by the Suhaila Salimpour format.* The class focuses on proper posture, muscle control, and drilling which will serve as a great foundation to advance and move to other Bellydance stylings. There will be a strong focus on basic Flamenco arm and hand technique (floreos). Basic Flamenco arms and hand (floreos) technique is important in particular for Tribal belly dancers. Tribal Belly dance styles, in particular ATS, incorporates much from Flamenco. Arm and hand (floreos) techniques will be taught leading to good posture/technique. Class drilling on basic bellydance technique, basic flamenco arms technique, correct posture, and lines.

     Please note that you will not only listen to traditional Middle Eastern music during the class. You will listen and drill to a variety of music not limited to Dance, Tahitian, Pop, Dancehall, Reggae, Techno, Flamenco and more. Choreography will be limited or non-existent as this is a basic technique class. Please note that since this is a basic technique class focusing on muscle control & building, I will touch your body to make sure that you are using the correct muscles. Please wear form fitting clothes. Hip scarves are fine but no beads or coins! :)

*Aviana is not an official instructor by Suhaila Salimpour. Suhaila Salimpour has given Aviana permission to use the Suhaila Salimpour format in her classes. Aviana is Level 1 Certified in the Suhaila Salimpour format and training for Level 2 Certification.

** If you are a first time student at DC Dance Collective, you must pay a one-time $15 registration fee.
